FAQ / Frequently Asked Questions
What is LED technology exactly?
LED is the abbreviation for ‘Light Emitting Diodes’. A LED is a semiconductor which emits light. A single LED is small and gives relatively small light output. By grouping them the light output rises. The color of the LED depends on the material used. A LED bulb is made of a group of LEDs. All the characteristics of the LEDs used together determine the emission angle, luminous flux, light intensity and color display.
What are the advantages of a LED bulb?
- Lasts 8 times longer than CFL bulb
- Lasts 35 times longer than an incandescent light bulb
- Uses only 5-6 Watts
- Does not use harmful materials, so the bulb is completely recyclable
- Fits in a regular E27 fitting
- Produces pleasant, warm light
- Are safe, bulb does not get hot
Does a LED bulb gives the same kind of light as an incandesant or CFL light bulb?
Yes, these LED bulbs are comparable with the light coming from CFLs and incandescent bulbs.
What should i pay attention to when I am buying a LED bulb?
When purchasing a LED bulb you should pay attention to the amount of Lumen and Kelvin it produces. Lumen tells you the light output. The more lumen, the more light the LED bulb gives. Kelvin gives you the color of the light. The smaller the degrees Kelvin, the warmer the light of the LED.
For what purposes is LED technology also used?
- In street lamps
- In traffic lights
- Lighting in gardens
- In spotlights
- In Christmas lights
How are the bulbs tested?
The NMI (Dutch measurement institution) has tested the bulbs on light output, power and color. Besides that the bulbs have both a CE and a KEMA hallmark.
How does the bulb works exactly? why is the lifetime of the bulb so much longer?
The bulb is based on LED technology. LEDs have a longer lifetime.
What if the bulb doesn’t lasts as log as promised?
The tests have shown that the promised 35.000 hour lifetime is feasible. That is why we give a guarantee on our bulbs.
Could you explain to the difference between a regular incandesant bulb and a LED bulb?
The energy use of the pharox bulb is only 10% of a normal incandescent bulb. Besides that the Pharox gives warm and beautiful light.
Could you further underpin the statement that the bulb has such a long lifetime?
In principle the quality of LEDs do not decline due to usage. This is why they have such long lifetimes.
To which advantage could this lead?
The advantages are dual. First you can save on your energy bill, because you waste less energy. Second you save the environment because you emit less CO2.
How expensive is the bulb?
This bulb is not expensive at all! You should ask yourself: what do I save using this bulb? The bulb is earned back within 2 years and after that you can profit from it for years more.
For what purposes could the Pharox be used?<
The Pharox is applicable for most purposes due to the Regular E27 fitting.
How did you measure light?
Light is measured in lumen and a few other units which measure the light experience.
How high is my energy comsumption on lighting?
According to independent research lighting amounts for 16% of our total energy consumption.
Why should I replace my incandescent bulb by a LED bulb?
The LED is a new technology, which produces bulbs that are 90 % more energy efficient than the incandescent bulbs. Furthermore the LED bulb lasts for more than 20 years. That’s good for your wallet and good for the environment. Besides that, the incandescent bulb will be phased out as of September 2009.
I think a CFL is just as economical as a LED bulb?
It’s true that a CFL bulb is much more efficient than an incandescent bulb, but a LED bulb is even up to two times more efficient.
Does a LED bulb fits in my current armature?
That should be no problem. On this moment you could replace an incandescent bulb with a large fitting. At the end of the year the LED bulbs with small fittings and different dimmable wattages will be available.
Is the LED bulb good for the environment?
The materials used are as much as possible environmental friendly materials. If the bulb unexpectedly breaks, you can just put it with your regular household waste. This in contrast to the CFL bulbs: they contain mercury and cause harm to the environment.
Do I have instant light with the LED bulb?
Yes, Just like a regular incandescent bulb you have instant light. This in contrast to the CFL bulbs.
How certain is the lifetime of the Lemnis LED bulbs?
In general LED bulbs consist of large amounts of small standardized LEDs of 3 o 5 mm in epoxy casting. These kind of LEDs have trouble losing their heat, which causes the useable lifetime of only 5000 to 10000 hours. The white light gets more and more blue. Lemnis Lighting developed its own light source which can cool the heat of the chips to the metal frame. The integrated light source is tested in climate rooms and under extreme thermal conditions. Based on these tests a lifetime of 50.000 hours has been deducted, with a 70 % preservation of light. The current light source is now 2 years in production and also 2 years tested. After 17.500 hours it still gives more than 90% of the original light output.
Are incandescent bulbs one on one comparable with LED bulbs?
Test conducted by TUV found that LED bulbs have other characteristics than CFL and incandescent bulbs. That’s why it is important which armature is used when LED bulbs are compared with incandescent bulbs. An incandescent bulb gives a round radiation, a CFL bulb gives a kidney shaped radiation and a LED bulb gives a conical radiation.
Why are the incandescent bulbs banned?
As of September 2009 the production of incandescent bulb will be phased out because of the high energy consumption and the environmental costs.
